Grandwater Estate~~Wickedsims Exclusive!!

If you are ever traveling along the Gulf Coast, take the time to look at some of the unique homes there, you won't be sorry.  In the sleepy little town of Prichard, Alabama, I found this home.

The style is called Tidewater Colonial, called so because the residents live on the second floor and above, the bottom of the home almost totally floodproof, a must since this home is built near a tributary close to the mouth of the Alabama River.  Built in 1890, this home has five large bedrooms, study, workshop, gameroom, library and four bathrooms.  The ground floor had been recently remodeled after Hurricane Ivan destroyed a good portion of the upper two floors so that the residents could survive down there in case of any future hurricanes.  That's why there is two kitchens in this home.  The Empty space on the ground floor was food storage.(These people could feed a small town with the food they had stored there.)

I was able to take some beautiful shots of the house, so thanks to the wonderful Henderson Family for allowing me into their home.

And now some thanks and shout outs to those people much more creative than I:

To the fabulous people at 11dots I say wOOt! and thanks for the Pacific fence, Laurana interior fence, and the adorable palm plant.

I owe the peeps at 4ESF big time for the rocks, yucca plant and outdoor palm.

Numenor @ MTS2, if you were closer I'd give you and the Dream Team big sloppy kisses for the wonderful objects you've made, like the Grand Trianon collection, Numenor's wall window collection, and Numenor's outdoor lantern which is simple, yet practical.  Why Maxis never made one before...

Mickyss for his great plants, Ailias for his fab fences, zookini for the indispensible ranch style window, and heck, all of those great peeps at MTS2 who are much more talented than I.

A few odds and ends:
Helena at Pixelsims, thanks for the curved glass door.
reflexsims, thanx for the big loft windows, they're really cool ^_^
Lin at shinysims, thanks for the nouveau fence...why maxis made a stair and not a fence....
and lastly, my most unusual sounding thank you goes to PiaNouka at Noukisims for the mulch...

One quick note about the home:  I HAD to add some windows to the ground floor because it just looked so...bare without them, and I also added the separate deck over the water because Sims don't worry about mosquitoes, which is why the residents of the original home never built one LOL.

Dear OolongAiki,

You should write for Southern Living or similar. Your into's are as exciting as the homes your build. I stress HOMES too, because these are not just boxes with roofs that might provide shelter.

People would want to LIVE here.

Thank you. I am now a huge fan of your work. I know that makes your day![WINK][WINK]

You really captured the essence of the home in this one you have made. All your homes are beauts but I think I like this one the best. Maybe you should be an archetect. You can make good use of space but also the little extras you put in make them special. You can also make them spacious but Grand.Thank you so much.

Well, I'd say come down to the Mississippi Coast and see our beautiful homes, but they were all wiped out.  OMG, I could sit here for days downloading houses!

Gulfport?  How's the rebuilding going?  Jamie and I just got back from Gulf Shores, and most of the homes there have been rebuilt after the last big hurricane Alabama experienced, Ivan the Terrible.

It's not really "going". Things will never be the same.  Since the casinos were allowed to come on shore 800 ft., they are buying up everything that used to have the fine homes on them.  We'll be known as condo and casino row or Little Vegas.

*shakes head sadly*  With all of the attention New Orleans is getting, people have forgotten that most of that city's problem stemmed from poor maintenance of the levies, while places that were legitimately hurt by Katrina go unaided.

I'll do what I can.  I've been toying with the idea of building a series of beach houses.  While that won't help much in the real world, at least I can try to bring a smile to your face.

Thank you, that would be great!  Here is a link of before and after Gorgeous houses, but of course they don't show the floor plans.http://www.sunherald.com/mld/sunherald/news/special_packages/renewal/before_after
I hope I did the link right without getting in trouble.  I bite at posting on boards!   :D
